Signs That Your Exhaust has Issues

The exhaust system in your car plays a significant role in ensuring that harmful exhaust gases do not get into the passenger cabin or the engine. If this happens, it will be a huge risk to those in the car as the gases are poisonous. It’s important that you know what to look out for to ensure that there is no leakage from the exhaust.

∙         Noises from the Engine

The engine should not be overly noisy. If you have been hearing popping noises from the engine and the cylinder head has something that appears to be like discolored paint, your exhaust pipe should be checked. No part of your vehicle should be overly noisy including the tailpipe.

∙         Burning Smell and Smoke

The burning smell is what comes first as exhaust gases burn parts of engine wiring. Every time you are driving, it heats, the parts start to burn and there is smell. If this is not taken care of, then you will start seeing smoke from the engine. This is a huge risk and the car should be checked immediately by a mechanic otherwise the car could even burst into flames.

∙         There Seems to Be a New Vibration

If you feel that your car has a new vibration that you have not experienced before, the first thing that should be checked is the exhaust pipe. You will experience vibration when driving in the steering wheel and on the seats. Why would an exhaust pipe rust? Any water that is collected on the exhaust should evaporate completely leaving that part of the vehicle dry. When this does not happen, the exhaust will rust and cause vibrations.

∙         The Car no Longer has Fuel

Your car’s fuel efficiency is also affected when the exhaust has issues. This is the reason that when you realize the car is consuming more than normal, you should have the exhaust pipe checked. This starts when the engine cannot exhale enough. An exhaust leak stresses your engine forcing it to work extra hard which leads to more fuel consumption.

If there is new vibration in your vehicle, there is a burning smell from the engine and your vehicle seems to be consuming more fuel, you should have the exhaust pipe checked. This is an important part of your vehicle that should be properly functioning. It’s also advisable to have the exhaust pipe checked at least twice a year.
